Over £24,000 to benefit local school

Over 250 guests attended the annual Wooden Spoon Book Launch dinner in Gloucester to raise money for disadvantaged children and young people.

The dinner at the Cheltenham and Gloucester Chase Hotel, raised over £12,000 for the Alderman Knight School in Tewkesbury.  It was sponsored by the developers of Gloucester Business Park, Goodman International Ltd.

The Alderman Knight School is the 2007 chosen cause for the Gloucestershire branch of the Wooden Spoon.  The school aims to raise £70,000 for the school during the year so that they can build a new multi-use games area for the children to enjoy.

During 2007 the school approached the Wooden Spoon Charity for support in extending the school’s facilities. Following discussions and meetings with representatives from the Charity a bid was submitted for funding to enable the building of a multi-use games area.

We were absolutely delighted that in December 2007 we were awarded £70 000 to build a games area. This will be built during the summer holidays [2008] and will provide a ‘much needed’ additional games area. It will be the size of two tennis courts.  This is a very exciting development and we are thrilled that pupils will have the benefit of this new facility from September 2008.
