Alderman Knight is a successful and well-established Gloucestershire Local Authority maintained day
special school for children aged 5 to 16 whose special needs have been identified as Moderate and
Additional Learning Difficulties [MALD]. This includes children who have been diagnosed as having an
Autistic Spectrum Disorder [ASD]. There is also the capacity to meet the needs of a few pupils with
more Severe Learning Difficulties [SLD]. All pupils have some needs in the area of communication and
interaction.

During the last three years pupil numbers have grown rapidly and at this moment there are 86 pupils
attending full time.

In September 2009 the school was awarded Specialist status in the area of Communication and
Interaction. We are really proud of this achievement and as a result we have been able to extend the
opportunities for all our pupils and our local schools.

The school has an excellent reputation and has a highly skilled and dedicated team of staff who work
together to ensure all children experience an exciting curriculum tailored to meet their individual needs. As a result there is a safe, caring and supportive ethos that enables them to be happy at school and achieve well in their learning. This was recognised by the most recent OfSTED inspection [November 2007]. I have included the summary statement from this report as I feel it will help to give you an indication of what makes this school ‘special’. A copy of the whole report is available on the school’s website or directly from the school.

I hope the rest of this prospectus will also help you find out more about our school. However it can only tell you about the school, it cannot really show you what it is like.  Therefore if you would like to know more please come and visit us.

The telephone number of the school office is 01684 295639. Please feel free to ring at any time and we will be very happy to arrange for you to have a tour of the school and to ask any questions you may have.

In addition the website is also a very valuable source of information and includes a great photographic
record of the many and varied curricular and extra-curricular activities and events our children experience.

We look forward to hearing from you

Clare Steel
