The School Council

The School Council meets once a fortnight over lunch with a pupil representative from each of the tutor groups in Key Stage 3 and 4 and one pupil representing the junior phase. A teacher and teaching assistant help make up the full council. The other pupils in their tutor group elect new pupil representatives each term. The pupils help to make decisions about changes and improvements to school, and also organise activities for fund-raisers. The council has had many successes, initiating the purchase of lockers, sports equipment, refurbishment of several parts of the school and in summer 2006 came first in a competition that highlighted their success. This resulted in a prize trip to Westminster for the Council and £50 to spend at school. All pupils also have the opportunity to vote for a Member of the Youth Parliament [MYP] each year, representing the different districts in Gloucestershire, as part of a national initiative.

Breakfast Club

Since Easter 2006 we have been running a breakfast club each morning from 8.30-9.00am serving a healthy mixture of fruits, cereals, toast, juices and ‘smoothies’ with some ‘hot’ options during the winter months. As well as the obvious benefits of having a good breakfast to start the day, there is also much to be gained socially; many of our pupils have long journeys to school, and therefore an early start. Breakfast club goes some way towards meeting the needs of those who have neither the time nor inclination to eat before they leave home.
