Vision and Mission Statements

Part of modern educational practice is to write Vision and Mission statements for the school. These are intended to state formally what the school is trying to do and how it plans to do it. The Vision statement gives details of the ‘how’, the Mission statement sums it all up in one short phrase. Both are given below. We hope you will find them helpful.

Our Vision

One of our key objectives and desired outcomes for all children and young people with SEN is that
they have the confidence and skills to be able to be fully included in the wider community. That is why
we are passionate about improving their communication and interaction skills. We already promote
inclusion through being key participants in local sporting, community or curricular events; providing
after-school clubs and summer activities for children from mainstream schools; providing effective
outreach and in-reach programmes for local schools and encouraging and enabling our pupils to join
mainstream classes to advance their learning and opportunities wherever possible. However with the
support provided through the Specialist Schools Academies Trust we are now able to do so much
more.

The school will continue to build on its existing reputation as a dynamic, vibrant centre of excellence
and innovation and be a key part of the community as well as the county’s provision for pupils with
special educational needs. We know there is a huge amount of expertise both within our school and the local community and as a specialist school we aim to provide opportunities and forums for this knowledge and expertise to be shared.

We aim to become a learning ‘hub’ and provide and sign post specialist support, advice and training to
all partners that will help them meet the needs of all children with communication and interaction needs. As a result these children will be helped to develop their ability to interact and communicate
effectively.

We hope that as they gain in confidence and self-esteem their barriers to learning will decrease and
they will experience more success in their learning and will make a successful transition to adulthood.

To enable this vision to become a reality the school will:

Continue to work with the Local Authority to provide an educational establishment that can support children whose needs cannot be fully met in mainstream schools. This will include a £5.3 million extension and refurbishment of the existing build.

Extend curriculum opportunities supported by and developed in liaison with local educational and business partners including reviewing external accreditations offered to ensure they meet individual needs. This will focus upon expanding work-related and vocational experiences.

Continue to enhance, re-new and update ICT resources and multi-media technology across the school to provide alternative approaches to learning that stimulate, engage and enable all pupils to participate and achieve.

Extend family learning opportunities to support parents and carers in raising achievement in literacy, numeracy and personal and social development of their children as well as to develop their own skills.

Use the newly built Learning Centre to support its work with families and the community.

Continue to provide year round opportunities both in-school and out-of hours for children with SEN and their families.

Develop a CPD (Continuing Professional Development) programme to enable us to learn from each other and ensure our practice complements and dovetails including an annual conference.

Continue to work with local schools to support them meet the need of children with additional
needs through sharing of resources and expertise.
