Links with Hartpury College

All Year 10 and 11 pupils have an opportunity to visit Hartpury College. These sessions give the opportunity for pupils to experience and carry out a whole range of activities around the Home Farm campus.

The activities undertaken may include:

  • Clearing, preparing digging vegetable plots

  • Sowing seeds and growing crops

  • Maintaining ornamental gardens

  • Weighing animals and recording growth

  • Maintenance of farmyard machinery and tractors

  • Animal care

  • Handling feeding and examining animals to check for signs of good or poor health

  • Clearing out, bedding and providing clean water for livestock

  • And many others

The pupils really enjoy this aspect of the Key Stage 4 curriculum and tackle all tasks and activities with enthusiasm! The sessions at Hartpury provide a useful link between school, work experience and college. The achievement of pupils at Hartpury is recognised by the AQA examination board through the Unit Award scheme.
