Mathematics

Maths and numeracy are essential parts of the curriculum for all pupils as they provide pupils with a powerful set of tools to understand and participate with the world they live in. These include logical reasoning, problem-solving skills, and the ability to think in abstract ways. Clearly maths is important in everyday life. Many forms of employment such as science and technology, medicine, the economy, the environment and public decision-making, all require basic numeracy skills.

The National Curriculum framework is used to design an appropriate maths curriculum for all our pupils tailored to suit each pupil’s needs and ability. This may include a wide- ranging variety of practical tasks posed in everyday settings. As part of our school Specialist Status we run booster or intervention groups for selected pupils. Information and Communication Technology is used to reinforce work in this subject area.

We are really proud that all students leave Alderman Knight School with external accreditation in Maths, either G.C.S.E. or Entry Level Certificate and Functional Skills, according to ability.
