Physical Education

All pupils participate in PE and Games lessons twice a week. A list for physical education kit is available from the school office.

Juniors Key Stage 1 and 2

Pupils in the junior phase swim every Monday at the Tewkesbury pool, Cascades throughout the year and have other games lessons each week. These include across the year, gymnastics, dance, ball skills, athletics and tennis.

A group of pupils go riding each week. This is provided by a group working for the charity, Riding for the Disabled.

During our break and lunchtimes pupils are encouraged to be active using the “Huff and Puff” equipment we have and can ride bikes provided by the school.

Every year the school likes to host and participate in the County Dance Festival.

Key Stage 3 and 4

Pupils continue to swim throughout Key Stage 3 and 4. This is arranged in two or three blocks of 6 weeks a year. During their swimming time they work towards various swimming awards; Games and PE lessons include gymnastics, dance, hockey, football, badminton, volleyball, athletics, cricket and rounders. For our football lessons we often have a coach from Cheltenham Town Football Club. Key Stage 4 pupils follow an Entry Level course in Physical Education. This a practical course and pupils achieve well.

Other activities

There are many opportunities to do extra-curricular sporting activities throughout the year. These include activities such as a ‘Jump for your Heart’ skipping to raise money for the British Heart Foundation; Gloucestershire Youth Games; swimming galas, and football, hockey, cricket and tennis festivals.

Funding from the ‘Sport for All’ Lottery Fund has helped to provide pupils in Years 7, 8, 9 with a residential week with PGL Outdoor Education Centres near Ross-on-Wye and Brecon.
