Craft Design Technology

This area of the curriculum provides pupils with opportunities to develop knowledge, skills and understanding of a range of materials, tools and processes. Pupils will be given a range of ‘design and make’ activities which help them to develop a ‘problem solving’ approach which will involve research, setting out ideas and developing a final product proposal. This will then be made using a range of wood, metal or plastic materials. Pupils follow accredited courses at Key Stage 4 including G.C.S.E and Entry Level as appropriate.

Enterprise – Team Programme

This Key Stage 4 Programme of study gives pupils the opportunity to gain experience of setting up and running a mini-company. Within the company pupils will be allocated job roles based on a review of their strengths and weaknesses. The focus of this course of study is to encourage the development of skills and understanding that would be of benefit in the work environment.

This is an accredited course. The qualification is made up of four units. Each unit is certificated in its own right and pupils may undertake assessment in as many units as they are capable of.

The area of study is as follows:

Unit 1 – Identifying Company Aims and Responsibilities
Unit 2 – Carrying out tasks in an Enterprise Company
Unit 3 – Working in a Team
Unit 4 – Reviewing the success of the Company.

Pupils able to submit all four units will achieve Entry Level Certification.

Food Technology

Pupils learn to cook from a very early age, developing their skills for food preparation; learning about health, safety and hygiene in every weekly lesson (at present 11⁄2 hours).

We have excellent links with Waitrose Food Studio in Cheltenham and we arrange a visit for each class in Key Stage 2, 3 and 4 each term where once again it’s a ‘hands-on’ experience.

Lessons are focused on life skills. These are a vital part of our children’s education and include using equipment, preparing healthy nutritious meals, washing up, sharing food and team work, to name but a few. Pupils are involved with the preparation of food for meetings and fund raising for Comic Relief & Children in Need.

You are more than welcome to come in and have a look around, or join lessons.

In Key Stage 4 pupils follow an accredited course, which could be an AQA Unit Award, Entry Level or G.C.S.E Food and Nutrition (WJEC), KS4 pupils have the opportunity to visit Launchpad where they use the kitchen for their cookery lessons. Outcomes are very good and many pupils move on to a career in catering and hospitality.
